SEWING CLASSES FOR KIDS

AGES 6-12

TERM 3 CLASSES starting on the 8th of August, coming soon!

Starting back on July 25th, Annalee Sewing School has developed 5 core sewing classes for kids to choose from, depending on their sewing abilities.
Courses are available for complete Newbies through to advanced Seamstresses and Seamsters.

All of our sewing classes for kids run after school hours with a maximum of 4 students per course. All machinery and materials will be provided – simply turn up.
Please read through the below courses to establish which level is best suited.

NEWBIE (Level 1)

An introduction to the world of sewing – No prior skills are required to attend this course.

The Newbie course aims to teach students the absolute basics of sewing and get them excited about all the home décor and wearable items you can make using a sewing machine. 

By the end of this course students will be able to set up a sewing machine unassisted, will know how to straight stitch, back tack, top-stitch and insert a zipper. Basic hand sewing skills will also be taught. The students will make a minimum of 3 completed projects to keep and take home.

Students will make a cushion cover, tote bag, and stuffed animal

BEGINNER (Level 2)

The perfect class for those who know the basics of sewing and have used a sewing machine before.

The Beginner course aims to refresh student’s knowledge of sewing. It is get them ready to make some items they will be able to wear for themselves.
By the end of this course, students will know their way around all the basic functions of a sewing machine with confidence.
This 8-week course will teach students how to make 3 completed projects which they are welcome to keep and take home. 

​Students will have a go at making their own soft toy, drawstring bag, Apron, and bunting.

ROOKIES (Level 3)

Designed for those who confidently know how to use a sewing machine and are now beginning to understand how clothing patterns might piece together.

The Rookie course aims to teach students the art of constructing wearable clothing and how patterns fit together. It begins to look towards learning challenging technical skills such as sewing buttons/buttonholes, sewing an invisible zip and more.
By the end of this course students will be more confident sewing independently and working their way through a simple sewing pattern.
This 8-week course will teach students how to make 3 completed projects which they are welcome to keep and take home.

​Students will have a go at making their own pencil case, elasticated skirt/shorts, and a pair of pyjamas.

INTERMEDIATE (Level 4)

For those who have experience following a sewing pattern and constructing a garment with some guidance.

The Intermediate course aims to teach students how to construct a garment consisting of a range of technical skills. These include using fusible, buttons/buttonholes, zips and more. We talk about different construction methods and technical tips and tricks to construct long lasting garments.
By the end of this course, students will be able to follow and sew from a pattern confidently.
The 8-week course will result in students making 2 completed garments. 

They will make a dressing gown and Dress/Shirt.

Advanced (Level 5)

For those who are confident following a pattern and creating a garment that consists of a range of technical skills (e.g. inserting a zip and attaching fusing) independently.

The advanced course teaches students how to make adjustments to an original pattern to enable better fit and personalisation. We will also talk about and begin working with stretch material patterns.
By the end of this course students will be able to sew stretch garments using an overlocker as well as make their own adjustments to existing patterns.
The 8-week course will result in students making 3 completed garments. 

​Students will make 2 stretch garments, leggings and a long sleeve top as well as altering an existing blouse block pattern to create their own unique top.
